Our Spiritual Teachers

Our Master Jih-Chang

Master Jih-Chang was born in China’s Jiang Su province in 1929. At a young age, his father taught him to learn Four Books and Five Classics, setting the goal of becoming the top people to benefit all living beings. 

In 1965, Master Jih-Chang became a Monk in Yuan Guang temple, studying Mahayana and Theravada under many great teachers all around the world. Master Jih-Chang promoted Buddhism for years, especially Lamrim Chenmo (The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment) and Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra  (Large Perfection of Wisdom Sutra).

In 1992, Master Jih-Chang formed the Sangha. Teaching Lamrim to Buddhist Monk and practitioners, he started promoting Buddhism, Chinese Culture, and organic farming to the community. 

Master Jih-Chang passed in 2004, while his compassion and wisdom are still leading his students, bringing happiness to the world.

Our Master Zhen-Ru

Born in China’s Hei-Long Jiang province, Master Zhen-Ru was deeply concerned about where we are born and where we will go at a young age. After she grew up, Master Zhen-Ru started seeking answers to the meaning of life. She left her hometown and set about on pilgrimages to the sacred Chinese Buddhist sites, such as Mount Wutai and Mount Putuo, and studied under many great teachers. Master Zhen-Ru Inherited the dramas including Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra (A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life), Abhisamayalankara, Lamrim Chenmo (The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment), etc. Later, Master Zhen-Ru was introduced to Late Master Jih-Chang’s teachings on The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. After listening to Late Master Jih-Chang’s teaching, Master Zhen-Ru firmly believed that Late Master Jih-Chang is the teacher she wasa looking for. Late Master Jih-Chang chose Master Zhen-Ru as his successor shortly after meeting her. 

In 2004, Master Zhen-Ru carried on Master Jih-Chang’s legacy, and has led her students to attain new heights in the learning of Buddhist teachings. Applying the thought in real life, Buddhism and Confucianism has benefited a lot of people globally. Master Zhen-Ru currently gives teachings to over 1,000 Buddhist monks and nuns, as well as more than 80,000 lay practitioners worldwide.

In 2008, Master Zhen-Ru established GEBIS temple in PEI, Canada. In 12 years, over a thousand people from thirteen countries have come to GEBIS, studying and translating the Buddhist Drama. They also closely communicate to the community, bring love and happiness to anyone they meet.
